  1. Yes. Fair weather friends. Virtual mates. There has been an emerging belief here in "tribes" - the Bondi Tribe, the South West Tribe, the Hills Tribe. This sound to me like very superficial associations between people by geography or a football team they support. Real friendship is about people you can count on in times of need, and those you choose to be around when times are good. Reciprocal. Empathetic. Enduring. An extension of who I am. Definitely not speed dating or facebook friends. "Finding friends as a business problem"? Yikes! Why do people become friends or not? I don't know how that happens. Acquaintances yes, friends no.

  2. here is the thing -- while tribes and clans and such can "go to war" as groups -- individuals always manage to connect -- think Romeo and Juliet. So -- although Social Networks are by definition about many -- they all begin with you as an individual.

  3. Well, all my friends are definitely individuals, but so are all my clients... Indeed, some of my clients are friends, and some of my clients... ...well there's depth of some kind in all those client/individual relationships.
