So where does the notion of accountability and integrity meet up with real-life deliverables? By that I mean, it’s all well and good to speak of the need for ethics and morality, but how many times have we seen poor behavior excused because the perpetrator was “talented” or important to the business or some such?

You either have integrity or you don’t
You either have integrity or you don’t. Seems most, if not all, of us are in agreement. And integrity and accountability crawl, walk, and run hand in hand. Again, I’d say, based on your comments, that we have a fair degree of concurrence on this point.
- if the evil you are describing above - is the norm for going up in the system - then on the day a company collapses those will be the chorus of the wailing, who demand compensation and will find excuses and scapegoats everywhere. Mediocrity is the enemy of excellence. And Opportunists are always mediocre.
- At some point there is an absolute -- "I was only following orders" -- "We didnt really know" -- "everyone else was doing it" -- we spent weeks in colege philosophy class on that notion -- if evil is the norm does morality change? in other words does it follow the so so called norm or is it an absolute ...
- Being surrounded by careerists only, my only way to keep my integrity was to quit my job.

Nothing Else Matters
Integrity has struck a chord. A deep chord it seems. And it does seem that there is consensus about the notion that integrity and accountability go hand in hand.

- In the world of Social Media, experts are always talking about how transparency and empowerment of customer-facing employees(live and online) is key. And corporations (read: clients)constantly balk at the notion. It makes you wonder at the integrity of those corporations. If they were being truthful in word and deed, wouldn't transparency be a natural outcome?
